stephengatelyfans.co.uk // keeping Stephen's memory and spirit alive

Welcome...

...to Stephen Gately Fans, my website dedicated to the late singer and actor Stephen Gately, whose short but brilliant life suddenly ended on 10th October 2009 when he passed away from an undiagnosed heart condition.
He was the most kind, gentle, talented and beautiful person, and the world is now a much darker place without him in it. But his memory and spirit will live on in everyone whose lives he ever touched. By keeping this website open as a long lasting tribute to him, I hope to ensure that his legacy lives on and that we never ever forget him.
R.I.P Stephen, 17/3/76 ~ 10/10/09

It was released on CD and download in Ireland on Friday and has already shot to the top of the download chart on iTunes there.

It is released on CD here in the UK tomorrow - but is already available to download on iTunes. You can download it from the iTunes store here.

BOYZONE PERFORM FOR THE FIRST TIME WITHOUT STEPHEN
Posted on 18 Feb 2010 by Laura
Boyzone were seen performing for the first time without Stephen this morning.

They performed new single Gave It All Away on GMTV, which featured Stephen's vocals on the first verse and also as backing vocals. Mikey, however, took over singing duties on Stephen's second verse, whilst Ronan sang the final line. Their performance was interspersed with clips from the video.

They were also interviewed, where they mostly talked about Stephen, but also spoke a little bit about their own individual solo projects.

You can download the interview and performance here.
     PLANS FOR OFFICIAL STEPHEN CHARITY
Posted on 18 Feb 2010 by Laura
To counter balance the earlier horrible news, we now have some great news - Stephen's family are in the process of setting up an official charity in his name. The charity will allow for a wider range of heart screening in the UK and Ireland and will be run by his close family.

I know that many of us have been hoping that an official heart charity would be set up in Stephen's name, so it's fab that it's currently being processed smile Hopefully we'll hear more about it soon smile
THE PCC REJECTS COMPLAINT ABOUT MOIR ARTICLE
Posted on 18 Feb 2010 by Laura
Disappointing and disgusting news today with the announcement that the Press Complaints Commission have rejected Andrew's complaint about Jan Moir's nasty and hateful article in the Daily Mail.

Although the PCC found the article to be in questionable taste, and could understand why it upset Andrew and thousands of others, they decided not to uphold the complaint as Moir had the right to express her views.

You can read the full adjudication here.

There is already outrage over the internet with the majority of people disagreeing with the PCC's ruling. As disgusting as the ruling is, at least so many of us were, and are, united in our disgust and hatred of the article and, indeed, the PCC's ruling!

Love and hugs to Andrew smile

     THE METEOR IRELAND MUSIC AWARDS
Posted on 14 Feb 2010 by Laura
According to the Irish News of the World, a special tribute award in memory of Stephen will be presented at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards on Friday.

Keith and Shane will present the brand new annual award and will also pay tribute to Stephen at the show by presenting video footage of him as his contribution to the Irish music industry is remembered.

An insider for the show says: "This is the first time that anyone has been honoured in this way. It's a special tribute. We want people to remember that Stephen helped fly the flag for the Irish music industry all over the world, not only during his time as a member of Boyzone, but with his solo career, and as a to star performer in London's West End."

And Keith adds: "Myself and Shane are really pleased that they have decided to do this for Steo. Details are being kept underwraps, but there's no way we could have turned down the chance to remember him. The whole band wanted to be there but Ronan is on tour in the UK and Michael is committed to doing Dancing on Ice. We all still miss Steo and it's so hard to believe that he's gone. I still have his number in my phone and I instinctively go to call him. I still include him in group texts to the rest of the boys. I'm just not ready to take his number out of my phone yet."

In the meantime, Boyzone are due to perform for the first time without Stephen on GMTV this Thursday. They will be talking to Lorraine Kelly about their new album and will also be performing Gave It All Away. You can catch them on the show on Thursday on ITV1 from 8.35am-9.25am.

     NEW DESIGN
Posted on 11 Feb 2010 by Laura
     Hi everyone,

Sorry it's been a bit quiet on here just recently with regards to updates, but I've been busy working on a brand new design for the website, which I'm proud to unveil to you today! smile

It's now been four months since Stephen passed away and, whilst the old design was appropriate for the general mood over the last few months, I now feel that it's time to remember Stephen with a smile and celebrate his life and the joy he brought to everyone. Therefore, I have hopefully created a warmer and "friendlier" design which is more suited to remembering Stephen the way he would want to be remembered. I hope you all like it smile

In the meantime, in case you've missed it, you can see the front covers for the new Boyzone single and album here, and the amazing front cover to Stephen's forthcoming novel has also been released here.

The single, album and novel will all be released over the next few weeks and can be pre ordered from amazon, play and the usual places.
PRE-ORDER GAVE IT ALL AWAY & BROTHERS
Posted on 25 Jan 2010 by Laura
Boyzone's new single and album are now available to pre-order on HMV.

You can pre-order the CD single of 'Gave It All Away' here and album 'Brothers' here.

Mika, who wrote the single, has also been speaking for the first time about his thoughts and feelings on the Boyzone version of the song, saying how honoured he is to hear Stephen sing it. He says: "I was shocked and saddened when I heard about Stephen's passing, he touched so many people's lives both with his music and with his wonderful personality. It's an honour to hear him sing my song. I wish all the best to the rest of the boys. I'm proud of the song and proud of their version."
