stephengatelyfans.co.uk // keeping Stephen's memory and spirit alive

Welcome...

...to Stephen Gately Fans, my website dedicated to the late singer and actor Stephen Gately, whose short but brilliant life came to a tragic end on 10th October 2009 when he died from an acute pulmonary oedema.
He was the most kind, gentle and beautiful person you could ever wish to meet and his passing has left a massive hole in the world. But his memory and spirit will live on in everyone whose lives he ever touched. By keeping this website open as a long lasting tribute to him, I hope to ensure that his legacy lives on and that we never ever forget him.

Mika, who wrote the single, has also been speaking for the first time about his thoughts and feelings on the Boyzone version of the song, saying how honoured he is to hear Stephen sing it. He says: "I was shocked and saddened when I heard about Stephen's passing, he touched so many people's lives both with his music and with his wonderful personality. It's an honour to hear him sing my song. I wish all the best to the rest of the boys. I'm proud of the song and proud of their version."
     BOYZONE NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO
Posted on 18 Jan 2010 by Laura
After a long wait, the new Boyzone single is finally here after Ronan premiered it on his radio show yesterday afternoon, and Sky News premiered the video today.

'Gave It All Away' is written by Mika and features some of Stephen's last recorded vocals. The song was originally recorded for release on the greatest hits album in 2008 but was taken back by Mika. Stephen loved the song and was so excited about it, and now Mika has given it back to them to release in tribute to their friend and brother.

It's a fantastic mid tempo reggae style number and Stephen sounds absolutely amazing on it. The accompanying video is a beautiful tribute and features the Boyz writing 'Dear Steo' letters as various video clips of Stephen play.

You can watch the video now by clicking here, and don't forget to let us know what you think of the song and video in the forum here.

'Gave It All Away' is released in the UK on 1st March, followed by the album 'Brothers' on 8th March.
STEPHEN GATELY: A PICTURE OF YOU
Posted on 16 Jan 2010 by Laura
A beautiful, touching and moving documentary about Stephen aired on Irish TV just after Christmas, and I've now put this on the website for you to download.

The documentary features some never before seen pictures and clips of Stephen as a youngster, and also as an adult, and also includes interviews with Louis Walsh, Bill Hughes, Pat Kenny, Westlife, Paul O'Grady and Christopher Biggins, as well as interviews with his former teachers and his lovely London friends Pat 'The Baker' and Phyllis 'The Butcher'.

It's a very beautiful but sad programme, although is an amazing tribute to an amazing person.

Just click here to download it.

(thanks so much to Gemma for sending me the DVD!)

     SUPPORT TEAM MIKEY!

Mikey is following in Stephen's skates by taking part in the new series of Dancing On Ice.

His partner on the show is Melanie Lambert, who skated Stephen's buddy Kyran Bracken to victory in 2007, and he has said that he is doing the show in tribute to Stephen. Although Stephen never knew about Mikey's involvement in the show, I'm sure he'll be up there somewhere, cheering him on! smile

The show previews on ITV1 tonight at 9pm, and is on every Sunday evening thereafter so don't forget to watch and support Team Mikey! You can read more about Mikey's involvement in the show over on the forum, which is where I'll also be posting video clips of Mikey's performances and interviews.

    Go Team Mikey! smile

     A TRIBUTE TO STEPHEN
Posted on 26 Dec 2009 by Laura
According to the Sun newspaper, there will be a tribute programme to Stephen shown on ITV in March.

A source told the newspaper: "Everyone is keen for it to be exactly as Stephen would have wanted. Ronan and the rest of the band are having a major input. They'll decide which artists are invited to make up the crowd and who'll be singing what. Nothing can ever bring Stephen back but everyone hopes the programme will show what an incredible person he was."

STEPHEN IS METRO'S CELEB OF THE YEAR
Posted on 23 Dec 2009 by Laura
The results of Metro newspaper's Celeb of the Year award have been announced - and Stephen won with 44% of the vote smile

Ronan accepted the award on Stephen's behalf, thanking readers for their votes and saying how thrilled Stephen would have been with the award.

He said: "Steo would have been thrilled with this award, he really would. It's a wonderful tribute from the public – very touching. He is so missed by everyone...we were all obviously absolutely devastated by his death. Christmas is always a time when you remember those you’ve lost so it will definitely be tough. As a band we always make time to meet up over Christmas so it will be very strange without him. We will still get together this year – I think we’ll all be meeting up on St Stephen’s Day [December 26], which seems a fitting tribute...Boyzone has always been a huge extended family and Steo was always at the centre of it all...there is going to be a Boyzone single featuring Steo’s vocals out early next year with an album to follow. We really wanted to show Stephen the greatest respect and make the record he wanted us to make and let his memory live on."

It will air on RTE One in Ireland on 27th December from 10.30pm-11.20pm.

Stephen will also feature in a couple of TV shows in the UK over the festive period too.
